My approach to teaching
"Adrian our teacher is relaxed and encouraging. Very patient and good with children. His approach is to show them what to do, and ask lots of open questions so that they learn and have fun at the same time".
Very happy for parents to sit in as it helps with home study.
Learning to play well requires a fair bit of practice and I will suggest techniques to get the most out of the time you or your children put in. Key to this is never practice your mistakes and always try to adopt good technique.
Posture and technique is taught of course, along with how to read music effectively - there are tricks and techniques to this. It's much easier than people think.
Acquiring some knowledge of music theory is helpful, especially with understanding patterns, intervals, keys, useful scales and arpeggios etc, so I teach theory as we go along.
You will also be taught to improvise from chords and scales - this really improves the confidence of players and is not often taught. I teach how to construct chords and scales - we don't do it by rote from a boring scale book.
I don't clock watch, so if a lesson needs a bit more time then you will often get it if there is enough time between students.
I can and do demonstrate everything that I teach you.
We can record or video key things if you like. The studio has bookable recording facilities and can also be used for ABRSM recorded performance exams online.
Good coffee available for parents and adult learners!
